Christmas Newsletter

XmasBellsThank you to all who attended the AGM, your input and support is important and much appreciated. We have now had our first committee meeting and plans for Christmas and January are underway.

First off I would like to welcome our four new committee members Dale Adams, Ruth Daunt, Marie McDonald and Grace O’Rourke, each have been elected for a three year term. I am sure you will join me in wishing them the best of luck. A full list of our committee is available on the website. I omitted to mention at the AGM that Marita Bailey has stepped down as Treasurer, I would personally like to thank Marita for her help over the past two years. (…..and in the next breath I would like to mention that we need a new Treasurer!!!)

The survey has been a big success and the majority of families have used their voice, we have already agreed to keep rallies or a show jumping league during the month of July and ensure we have regular activities through the year for non- competitive families.

Christmas is a busy time socially as we like to catch up with friends and family. Traditionally for Pony Club it is very much a Hunting Time of Year! Hunting is terrific for balance but also a great social activity. There are three Children’s Hunts over the Christmas period for our younger members, all welcome from lead rein upwards. Our own Island Hunt Children’s Meet is on Sunday 28th but also Cahore on Saturday 3rd is a nice introduction, also included are dates with neighbouring hunts Shillelagh and Wicklow. The other dates are suitable for our older members.

To get our Christmas Started we are organising a Silly Jumpers Ride Out in Camolin Wood on Sunday 21st December (without hounds). The Ride Out is free of charge and for members only. Mulled Wine and Mince Pies to encourage festivities. Adults on horseback required for supervision, if available please contact Dale Adams on 086-1611460

Wexford on Ice – Ice skating for all our members (without ponies!), 4pm Friday 2nd January €10 each, adults available to supervise go free!!!!!!!
followed by a trip to Burger Macs.

McGuires Charity Ride 2pm Sunday 4th January, Ballycanew. Suits all ages as the Ride Out will be split into groups. Lots of jumping promised!!

As part of our efforts to provide more Stable Management type rallies we are starting with a Clipping Demo courtesy of Claire Byrne, Anvil Lodge Riding School on Monday 12th January. Followed by a Saddle and Tack fitting demo at a later date. Cost €5

C Test – Training will begin in January 2015 with the aim of taking the test in early March. A second C Test will take place after camp as usual. Anyone interested in this training please text Ruth Daunt on 087-9680344. Members must be at least 11 years old on 1st January 2015 and have passed the D+ test.

Show Jumping Lessons – Lessons starting in Butterfly Farm on Wednesday 14th Jan with Michael Byrne, Butterfly Farm. Members must be of C Test Standard to take part. Contact Karen on PC phone if interested.

Dressage Programme – will commence in January with Jillie Rogers, details and dates to follow. We will typically attend one Dressage Ireland Competition per month. You can either become a full member of Dressage Ireland to compete or simply pay an extra nominal fee to cover insurance on the day. Anyone interested or wish to discuss further please contact Fleur on 087 3359382

Flatwork & Jumping Lessons with Claire Byrne early January, most likely a Saturday afternoons. Watch out for the text.

Membership – It is with much regret that I must announce that IPC have raised the membership by €5. Membership for the first member of the family will now be €100, €90 for the second and €80 for each thereafter. 2014 membership has been extended to 14th January 2015 and as a result 2015 membership is not due until 15th January 2015. New members joining now can take part over Christmas with all activities provided their 2015 membership is fully paid. All membership will be renewed on line with the option of paying by Credit Card, Debit Card or Cheque. Details and Instructions will be available on our website.

I would like to thank the Committee, especially the outgoing members Hilary Johnston, Peter Doyle and Liam O’Leary and also all the parents that gave their support throughout the year. Last but not least all our members ……….thanks to you our club is what it is today

Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year

Spring Newsletter

Dear Member,
Now that we have got 2014 underway it’s time to put our spring programme together. Please have a look at the activities below and indicate to use either through a Facebook Message or a Text Message to the Pony Club Phone.

Minimus – 7th & 8th June
Minimus is an Under 12’s team competition which will take place in Kilquilkey, Mallow. The competition is a Triathlon which includes running, swimming and cross country (you only need your pony for the cross country!!) Training will involve swimming once a week which only cost €5 per night last year. The night and venue has yet to be agreed. Running sessions will be organised on an ad hoc basis. Cross Country lessons to start in February. There will be various Minimus competitions on the run up to the June weekend. This competition has always proved to be fun for all the family in the past. Please indicate your interest to the Pony Club phone ASAP as we need to provisionally book stables and accommodation.

Kelly’s Show Jumping Training League – Friday 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th February
Courtesy of the Kelly family, Camolin we will be running a training league with Fiona Cloke and Edward Kelly. Due to the fact that the nights are still dark and we do not have an outdoor warm up arena we envisage that for the month of February the night will entail a part lesson and part competition, with feedback and advice on your Show jumping Round once it is completed. We hope to improve everyone’s show jumping skills over the course of the weeks. Places are  limited so please indicate your interest as early as possible as we may have to operate on a first come first served basis.
